Did you know that two websites could look virtually identical…even though one will be a much better value than the other? To a lot of our new clients, or small business owners looking at a new web design in Portland, this comes as something of a surprise. After all, how many differences can their really be beyond what you see?
A lot more than most people would think.
That’s because there’s a lot that happens “offscreen,” with your website’s coding and layout, that can affect not only how well it performs now (including the amount of time it takes to load, and how consistently it can be viewed over different web browsers and computer systems), but also whether it can be improved and upgraded in the future.
Here are a couple of quick examples: a properly coded and constructed small business website will be attractive to search engine spiders from day one, meaning that they can help you bring in new potential customers from around the world, or your local area, from day one. One that has been quickly thrown together without any thought to search engine optimization, however, won’t bring any of these benefits. In fact, it might cost you a lot of time and aggravation trying to have it show up on Google, Yahoo, and Bing.
Or, a website could look great as is, but be incredibly difficult to add or change pages to. Again, this comes back to the time and effort that were put in at the beginning of the process, whether sophisticated tools like a content management system like wordpress were put into place, and whether your design team gave any thought to your future business goals or were just in a hurry to finish your project and cash your check now.
The point is that there are a lot of things in your new small business website that might not seem important, or apparent, at the moment, but can have a huge bearing on the kind of value you get from in the end. When it comes to Portland web design, there really is more than you can see with the naked eye – so make sure you have a designer or team that’s giving you your money’s worth.
